In the three years that have passed since Big River released their last single, the band has been through some changes. 2025 saw both the introduction of drummer Becky Scott and the departure of bassist Simon Gardiner, who left the band a parting gift in the form of ‘Rattlesnake Love’. If you’ve already heard the song at a live show, you’ll know it’s an absolute belter that marks a shift into harder rocking territory for the band’s tenth anniversary year.

Far from abandoning their blues rock roots, ‘Rattlesnake Love’ takes everything that the band are about and turns it up. Introduced by the controlled clatter of Scott’s drums and an addictive riff that shows guitarist Damo Fawsett at his most slinky, it’s no surprise that the track has already found a place as a setlist staple. Notably heavy on the low end, Simon Gardiner makes his final recording with the group count, lending a relentless groove to proceedings which culminates in a tasty solo that makes you question why the bass isn’t permitted to take the spotlight more often.

Adam Barron’s voice remains the band’s trump card, full of power and soul, he brings an effortless class that helps position Big River a cut above your average rock and rollers. And, if there’s any doubt, just listen to the way Barron sings the words ‘Rattlesnake Love’ at the end of the track, prolonging the final note for maximum impact.

If you’ve not checked out ‘Rattlesnake Love’ yet, it’s available on streaming platforms now and is as addictive as the toxic romance that the lyrics warn you about!
